OTTAWA — Beginning July 1, Ransom Memorial Hospital’s obstetrics unit will add a procedure called epidurals. Hospital CEO Larry Felix said adding epidurals gives women two options depending on their deliveries. Under the normal procedure, if a woman needs a pain-killer during deliveries, a one-time dose that lasts is given her, he said. In the epidurals, a computerized IV pump delivers smaller amounts of pain-killer over longer periods of time, he explained. It’s part of a series of improvements to the hospital’s OB-GYN services. The hospital’s new expansion includes new OB and surgical wings and should be done by the end of September.
