OTTAWA — The annual Special Olympics Torch Run kicks off from Ottawa to Beto Junction today at 9 from the north Ottawa Dairy Queen. The Douglas County Torch Run brought the torch to Ottawa Tuesday. Ottawa police Lt. Adam Weingartner said law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes will run the torch through downtown on Main Street and then head west on 17th Street to Eisenhower Avenue. Officers will run the torch down Old Highway 50 and through Williamsburg at about noon and on to Beto Junction, where they’ll meet runners from Topeka and Shawnee County at about 2. The torch will be passed to Coffey County officers. The “Flame of Hope” will arrive in Wichita on Friday for the start of the Special Olympics summer games.
