OTTAWA — County commissioners rejected a request to close part of the minimum-maintenance Osborne Lane northwest of Ottawa Wednesday. A property owner had requested that part of the road be closed to keep out four-wheelers and illegal trash dumpers. Other owners with property along the road objected. Unlike other minimum-maintenance roads, the county does some maintenance on it because some people need it for access. Commissioner Don Hay said the road should be brought up to county road standards but Commissioner Sue Farrell disagreed, saying the cost of bringing it to full standards would be too expensive, especially considering there’s a low-water bridge on the road. County officials will talk with BNSF because whenever trains are parked on across the Louisiana Terrace crossing, some people living on that road have no other access other than Osborne Lane.
