OTTAWA — Ottawa city commissioners agreed Wednesday night to settle a federal lawsuit by sewer contractor SAK Construction for $50,000. City attorney Bob Bezek told commissioners the city was in the right but it was cheaper to settle the lawsuit. The company had relined some of the city’s sewer line but in a couple of sections, they collapsed, forcing the company to dig up and replace the lines, he said. SAK tried to bill the city more than $160,000 to repair the work and the city refused, he said. The company then sued in federal court. Commissioners grumbled but agreed to pay.
