WELDA – U.S. 169 could be closed at Welda as early as Wednesday. The Kansas Department of Transportation will remove the old railroad bridge on U.S. 169 at Welda and replace it with a box culvert at the Prairie Spirit Trail. KDOT plans to detour north- and south-bound traffic onto U.S. 59 through Moran. The highway will be reopened in two to three months, weather permitting, KDOT said. King’s Construction Company, Oskaloosa, is the contractor for the $1.3 million project.
