TOPEKA — Attorney General Steve Six has filed for election. Although he’s been serving in as attorney general, it will be his first election in the position. Democrat Six was a Douglas County judge when he was appointed to be attorney general when Paul Morrison stepped down in the wake of a sex scandal. Herington Republican Ralph de Zago is the only other person to file. However, Republican state senator and Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt, who represents part of Franklin and Aanderson counties, has been campaigning and says he’ll file for attorney general and would be Six’s most likely challenger in November. The deadline to file for state and county offices is noon Thursday unless someone intends to run as an independent.
