OTTAWA — A flood warning continues this morning for most of the Marais des Cygnes River basin, including Ottawa and Osawatomie. The U.S. Geological Survey said the river level at ottawa was 25 feet shortly before 6:30 this morning and rising quickly. The National Weather Service predicts that the river will rise above the flood stage of 31 feet this afternoon and will rise above 32 feet Thursday afternoon. At Osawatomie this morning at 5, the river was at 18 feet. Flood stage is 28 feet. The weather service predicts the river will rise to more than 34 feet early Friday morning, putting Main Street east of U.S. 169 under water. The weather service says there is some low-level flooding at Quenemo but is predicting record flooding later. The Marais des Cygnes at Quenemo was at 24 feet Tuesday night – flood stage at Quenemo is 17 feet. The weather service say the river will get to near 30 feet sometime this morning. Shortly before 5 this morning, the river was at 24 feet at Pomona. Flood stage at Pomona is 20 feet.
