CARBONDALE — The city of Carbondale soaked its taxpayers. And the taxpayers loved every sun-drenched, water-soaked minute of it. The Osage County Herald-Chronicle reported that almost as many people who voted for a sales tax to pay for the city’s new swimming pool showed up for its grand opening. Two years ago, Carbondale voters approved a one-cent sales tax to fund the construction of the swimming pool. The new pool has water slides, a walk-in entry with splash fountains; and “tumble buckets” that dump water on swimmers below. Renovations were also made to the existing bathhouse. The sale tax will pay off the nearly $868,000 cost of the new pool over a 20-year period.
