GARNETT — Texting while driving is a no-no, but in Anderson County, texting while delivering is OK. The Southeast Kansas Multi County Health Department has joined Text4baby. Text4baby is a new free service for pregnant women and new moms. The Anderson County Review reports that women who take part receive three free text messages each week timed to their due date or their baby’s date of birth. The messages focus on a variety of topics including breastfeeding, immunizations, nutrition, mental health, smoking, oral health and safe sleep. Women can also connect to prenatal and infant care services through the program. Although messages are specifically targeted to pregnant women and new moms ages 18 through 25, older women and even dads are welcome. Organizers of the program hope to reduce premature births, poor nutrition, excessive smoking and alcohol use. To enroll in Text4baby, simply text baby to 511411 (or bebe to receive messages in Spanish). The Web site is www.text4baby.org.
