OTTAWA – The Franklin County Historical Society’s Deb Barker is planning a birthday party for next year, which is the 150th anniversary of Kansas. The state and the Freedom’s Frontier National Historical Area are planning several activities with the anniversary and the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and are expected to draw an influx of visitors interested in the period, she said. Locally, Barker wants to raise a marker about John Brown at Vermont and John Brown roads, set up a historical society Web site, and create a special anniversary event in the fall of 2011, in addition to a series of special exhibits and activites at the Old Depot Museum.
