GARNETT — Some Anderson County emergency dispatchers could receive hundreds of dollars in back pay after an error in their pay schedule was discovered recently. Anderson County Clerk Phyllis Gettler said when dispatchers moved from Garnett city hall to the county’s new law enforcement center last year, they began working under a wage plan similar to county law enforcement officers. Under that plan, they work 12-hour shifts and about 14 days a month. Gettler said Sheriff Scot Brownrigg attended a seminar and learned dispatchers are considered civilian employees under federal employment law rather than law enforcement and that they should be paid according to a 40-hour work week and were due overtime pay. County commissioners agreed to pay the extra overtime. Gettler said one dispatcher will receive about $900 in back pay.
