OTTAWA – Gov. Mark Parkinson said that despite falling revenues, the state’s budget will be able to scrape by for the rest of the year. Previously, the state had to deal with a shortfall of nearly $1.3 billion but this year, the shortfall will be much smaller – approximately $20 million to $50 million, he said. That will be much more manageable and shouldn’t require “allotments” where Parkinson had to unilaterally cut state spending and agencies’ budgets. Especially if the federal government makes Medicare reimbursements as scheduled, the state will be able to cover budget gap. Parkinson talked about the budget during his recent visit for the U.S. 59 grand opening in Ottawa.
