GARNETT–If you are thinking of swimming at Cedar Valley Reservoir in Garnett…better drop the idea right now. Apparently Garnett city officials have been getting questions about rumors that the city might allow swimming at the lake…City Manger Joyce Martin said last summer, they did discuss with the city’s liability insurance carrier what would need to be done to allow swimming. Among other things, the city would need to build a sandy beach so swimmers could get in and out of the water. Martin says at some point in the year, every possible location for a beach would be underwater, meaning the city would have to build beaches over and over. She says it would not be a proper use of taxpayer money. Martin also reminds people that swimming is not allowed at any of the city’s three lakes…the reservoir and lakes at the north and south side of town.
