KANSAS CITY — The former head of the Kansas City, Kan., regional office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Bevelopment will get one year and one day in prison now that the party is over. U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said Herman Ransom, 53, Olathe, routinely went to casinos and played tennis while he was supposed to be working. In March, a jury convicted Ransom of 10 counts of wire fraud and 10 counts of theft of public funds. Ransom has been ordered to repay the federal government nearly $47,000 for the time he didn’t work, Welch said.
