OTTAWA — When Jeff Curry becomes the new Franklin County sheriff Thursday, he said not to expect any sweeping changes. Under the tutelage of sheriffs Rex Bowling and Craig Davis, the department has become one of the most progressive in eastern Kansas, he said. They developed a list of goals of improvements and Curry said he’ll keep working on the list Curry is a lieutenant in the sheriff’s department but has been appointed to succeed Davis, who is retiring today. Curry said he got his interest in law enforcment from taking a high school criminal justice class taught by Davis.
