OSAWATOMIE — Charges of financial mismanagement were heard at a recent meeting of the Osawatomie City Council. Councilwoman Tamara Maichel harshly criticized City Manager Bret Glendening for what she regards as knowingly violating state law that prohibits city government from spending more than what they have on hand. Maichel said Glendening violated the law when he allowed the city’s golf course and recreation commission funds to dip into the negative, despite the fact there was enough money to cover the expenditures in the overall treasury. Glendening disputed the charge, and he says that Maichel misinterpreted the financial regulation….he said so long as total expenses for all city accounts do not exceed total fund balances, there is no violation.
