GARNETT — The state’s one-cent sales tax increase that took effect Thursday created some economic stimulus in June. Anderson County Rreasurer Dena McDaniel told the Anderson County Review that there was a rush of people buying cars in June before the sales tax increase kicked in. She said, typically, many people try to make large purchases like vehicles before any sales tax increase and that was the case in Anderson County. However, Bauman’s Furniture owner Glenn Bauman said he didn’t see much of an increase in furniture sales in June because of the sales tax increase. Most people don’t like the increase but understand it is a small price to pay compared to the alternative, he said. The sales tax increase is a little more gentle way of paying for things, he said.
