OTTAWA — On a 3-1 vote Wednesday morning, Franklin County commissioners agreed to a list of county holidays for next year. County administrator Lisa Johnson said the list is the same as the state’s list of holidays for next year. However, Commissioner Don Hay voted against and told Johnson that he objected to observing Columbus Cay as an official holiday. He said it would be better to reserve the holiday for unexpected situations. In his more than 40 years in the banking business, Hay said he rarely observed Columbus Day. Because of the way Christmas and Thanksgiving fell on next year’s calendar, Columbus Day will work, and that’s why county department head recommended it, Johnson said.
