OTTAWA — Under state law, the Ottawa Recreation Commission won’t own its new proposed recreation center next to Eisenhower School. However, because of a technicality, there was a concern that the Ottawa school district couldn’t own the recreation center and lease it to the ORC. However, school Supt. Dean Katt said he looked at the law and is convinced that there’s no problem. Although there is a provision in state law that forbids school districts from long-term lease-purchase agreements, the way the ORC lease is written, it isn’t affected by that provision, he said.
