OTTAWA — The county is looking at ways to save the two wooden chainsaw sculptures of Tauy Jones and George Washburn on the courthouse lawn. Joa Carter of Ottawa said she doesn’t think too much of the proposals to save the sculptures, which she said relies too heavily on potent chemicals. Carter said she’s consulted preservation experts and she said they suggest a more environmentally-friendly method. That includes cutting the sculptures off their wooden bases, replace them with concrete bases, treat the sculptures with tung oil and place them on metal supports on the concrete bases. County administrator Lisa Johnson said the commission will review options in August.
