OTTAWA — After a long debate last night over a proposed drug testing policy at Ottawa High School and Middle School, the Ottawa school board decided to cast a wider net. The principals had proposed the drug policy after a survey showed that a majority of high school students had tried alcohol or drugs. School Supt. Dean Katt said than rather start drug testing for students, the board is more interested in a “big picture” program that includes the community and devises a broad drug prevention program that reaches outside the schools. School administrators will form a special task force of educators, students and community members to research and suggest options.
