OTTAWA — The Franklin County Health Department will use leftover federal grant money to fight the swine flu to buy a new wireless communications system. Health director Midge Ransom said the new system would allow up to 90 people to handle a major disease outbreak or a disaster at the same time. Federal regulations require local emergency officials to be able to set up a command center to handle a disease outbreak in less than two hours and the wireless system will speed up the process and eliminate cords and wires strewn across the floors, she said. The low bid for the wireless system is from AT&T and is about $9,100.
