OTTAWA–Mourners said their last goodbyes to Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel A. Smith, who was killed last week in a car wreck while responding to an emergency call. At graveside services, a gun salute, the playing of taps, and a symbolic last call for Deputy Smith over the scanner marked his final laying to rest. Earlier at funeral services at the Ottawa University Chapel, several hundred law officers from as far away as Hutchinson attended. The Chapel was filled to capacity with mourners.
