GARNETT — Tuesday is election day. And if you’re a Republican, you’ve got plenty of choices to make. However, Democrats won’t get any hand cramps voting Tuesday. Republicans have contested races ranging from the Anderson County Commission all the way up to the U.S. Senate. On the local level, for the 1st District of the AndersonC Commission, Charles Allen and Jim Johnson are seeking the GOP nomination to face incumbent Commissioner Dean Register. Register isn’t opposed in the Democratic primary. Polls are open 7 to 7. In Franklin County, there are three contested county commission races, 1st District Commissioner Sue Farrell faces a challenge from three GOP challengers, Katie Boothe, Ron DePriest and Colton Waymire. In the 4th District, incumbent Commissioner Don Hay is being challenged by GOP challengers Mark Evans and Steve Harris. 5th District incumbent Don Stottlemire is being challenged for the GOP nomination by Norm Wooge. The 5th District is the only race with a Democrat, and that’s Terry Johnson. For Democrats, there are no local primary races and only primaries for the U.S. Senate, 2nd District Congress and secretary of state. For Democrats, the U.S. Senate includes Robert A. Conroy, Shawnee; David Haley, Kansas City; Lisa Johnston, Overland Park; Charles Schollenberger, Prairie Village; and Patrick Wiesner, Lawrence. In the U.S. House of Representatives, District 2: Cheryl Hudspeth, Girard; Thomas Koch, Leavenworth; and Sean Tevis, Olathe. Secretary of State: Chris Biggs, Junction City; and Chris Steineger, Kansas City. On the Republican side, for the U.S. Senate: Tom Little, Mound City; Robert “Bob” Londerholm, Overland Park; Jerry Moran, Hays; amd Todd Tiahrt, Goddard. The U.S. House of Representatives, Dist. 2: incumbernt Lynn Jenkins, Topeka; and Dennis Pyle, Hiawatha. For governor and lieutenant governor: Sam Brownback and Jeff Coyler; and Joan Heffington and Mark Holick. Secretary of State: J.R. Claeys, Salina; Elizabeth “Libby” Ensley, Topeka; and Kris Kobach, Piper. Attorney General: Ralph J. De Zago, Herington; and Derek Schmidt, Independence. Commissioner of Insurance: David J. Powell, El Dorado; and incumbent Sandy Praeger, Lawrence. Kansas House of Representatives, 9th District: incumbent Bill Otto, LeRoy; and Raymond “Bud” Sifers, Iola. State Board of Education, Dist. 3: incumbent John Bacon, Olathe; and Dennis George, Ottawa.
