LAWRENCE — The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the state has seized the assets of the Wheat State Pizza shops in Baldwin City, Lawrence and Emporia for failure to pay taxes. Signs saying the businesses’ assets had been seized were posted on the buildings’ windows this morning, the paper reported. On its Web site, the Kansas Department of Revenue sais Wheat State Pizza owned nearly $227,000 for nonpayment of state sales tax and withholding tax at the three cities as well as Wheat State shops in Gardner and Overland Park. The pizza shops in Gardner and overland park are no longer open. The newspaper also said that the state seized the personal assets of Wheat State Pizza owner ryan murphy. The paper saID it talked to someone who declined to identify himself but said he was the new owner and would reopen the pizza shops soon.
