GARNETT–If you’re thinking about getting a pet…have you thought about a pot-bellied pig? Before you get one though, check the city ordinances…not doing so has gotten Rose Holloway of Garnett in trouble. Holloway and her family did extensive research on the animal, and in March they brought home “Mayhem” the pot-bellied pig. But one thing Rose forgot to do was to see if pot-bellied pigs are allowed in town. When she started checking, to her dismay she found the animal is indeed prohibited in Garnett city limits. Holloway has now gone to the city commission to ask that the ordinance be changed so she can keep her pig. She has included a letter from a local veterinarian and a petition signed by her neighbors. Holloway says Mayhem is potty trained, walks on a leash and recently learned to sit on command. In fact, Mayhem thinks she’s a dog and even barks like a dog. Holloway expects to learn Mayhem’s fate at the August 10 city commission meeting.
