KANSAS CITY — A 33-year-old Fontana man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for growing marijuana. Although he wasn’t charged in federal court, Jose Villa-Arellano was believed to have fired a shot at Miami County investigators while they were checking a field where marijuana was being grown. Villa-Arellano pleaded guilty to one count of growing marijuana in five cultivated plots in rural Miami County, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said. More than 250 marijuana plants were seized, as well as gardening tools. Welch said investigators discovered one of the plots last September and set up a hidden camera which filmed Villa-Arrellano tending the marijuana.
