MANHATTAN — After getting pelted by heavy rains inspired by the Pacific Ocean weather pattern El Nino, Kansas is now starting to experience the lesser known weather pattern called La Niña caused when eastern Pacific waters off Peru get cooler. In Kansas, the La Nina pattern results in hot, dry summers and milder, drier winters, said state climatologist Mary Knapp.
