GARNETT — Local Garnett-area governments mostly held the line on property tax increases. City and school officials told the Anderson County Review that they struggled to cut spending during a difficult budget year. The Garnett City Commission approved a tiny decrease in the city mill levy. However to do that, the city will dip into its utility funds. And the city is looking at some increases in its utility fund next year. Anderson County commissioners approved a budget with a tiny property tax increase for next year. The USD 365 school board approved a budget with a property tax increase of two-10th of a mill. However, the board has also called a bond election that would add 1 mill to the present school tax levy if voters approve it.
