OTTAWA — Ottawa city commissioners endorsed a request Wednesday by the city of St. Marys, which is asking other cities to push state legislators to push back the deadline for submitting local budgets to the state. Pushing the deadlines to October from late August would allow budgeters to collect more information about spending and tax collections during the current year, said city manager Richard Nienstedt. That would allow more accurate budgeting which would benefit taxpayers, he said. Although Nienstedt said he supports changing the deadline, he doubts legislators would approve it.
