LAWRENCE — The city of Lawrence is bidding for the 2014 Special Olympics national games. Earlier this week, city commissioners agreed to make the bid. The Lawrence Journal-World reported that estimates indicate it will cost about $7 million to $8 million to host the event. However, the eight-day event could draw more than 50,000 people to the city. Kansas Special Olympics president Chris Hahn said a separate non-profit corporation will be formed to host the games and raise money for the games.
