WICHITA — The Wichita State University symphony orchestra will perform with the classic rock band Kansas in September. “A Symphonic Evening With Kansas” is the evening of Sept. 18 at Hartman Arena in Park City. The WSU Symphony is one of five university symphonies that will perform this fall with Kansas. The school’s music department also will end up with about $5,000 in scholarship money and music equipment from the band’s Kansas Collegiate Symphony Tour. Kansas drummer Phil Ehart said the band got the idea for performing with university symphonies as a result of last year’s CD that included the Washburn University Orchestra in Topeka, where the band originated. Few university music programs get little outside money and Kansas decided to include university symphonies in their tour and help raise money for them. Tickets are $40 and $29 and can be ordered on-line from www.stage1tickets.com.
