PRINCETON — The Kansas Highway Patrol said a truck driven by Jason Price, 29, Ottawa, crossed the center line, sideswiped a mini-van and hit another truck head-on Saturday night on U.S. 59 just north of Princeton. Troopers said price wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was killed. Eight other people were injured in the three-vehicle crash. Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry said his department received a call of an erratic driver on U.S. 59 and while deputies were responding, they received another call of the accident. The mini-van was driven by Ambrose Scheckel, 74, Richmond. She and two other passengers, Anna Scheckel, 76, Garnett; and Lavern Scheckel, 83, Garnett; were taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital. The other truck, which was hit head-on, was driven by Petite Duncan, 41, Linn Valley; She and three children – Sabrina Spurlock, 2; Clarissa Spurlock, 3; and Andrew Duncan, 13 – were taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital. Another passenger, Jeff Gardner, 41, Louisburg; was taken to RMH but then taken by helicopter to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Troopers said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt. His condition wasn’t immediately know this morning. The sheriff’s office says the rest of the people taken to RMH were treated and released.
