OTTAWA — The Ottawa City Commission will proclaim Sept. 11 as a day of service and remembrance when they meet Wednesday night at 7. There’s a national effort to encourage people to do community and volunteer service on Sept. 11. The Ottawa Youth Action Council and Youth in Government program plan activities that day. They’ll also honor Franklin County Deputy Sam Smith, the only Franklin County deputy to die in the line of duty, who was a founding member of both the Youth Action Council and Youth in Government.
