OTTAWA — Police Chief Dennis Butler and the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce have issued a warning of a scam that’s popping up in the area. Butler said Ottawa area residents are getting text messages labeled urgent and refer to credit cards issued by Bank of the West. The text includes a phone call and an e-mail address. Those who respond are asked for personal information. The Bank of the West said they haven’t sent the texts and that they’re fraudulent. The e-mail address used in the scam message is [email protected]. The fraudulent number is 1-620-330-9016.
