Welda–Construction to remove the old Welda train overpass is underway. According to Kansas Department of Transportation’s Priscilla Peterson, construction to replace the overpass south of Welda is expected to take three weeks. Due to the construction, the official detour will take drivers about 20 miles southeast of Moran and then back to Iola. Most travellers are taking a one-mile country road detour, in which the road loops around the construction site. Drivers can resume travel on U.S. 169 between Welda and Colony as early as mid-September.
