TOPEKA — — Sixth District Chief Judge Richard Smith, of Miami and Linn counties; and Fourth Judicial District clerk Vicki Mills, of Franklin, Anderson, Osage and Coffey counties; have been named to a new group that will review the administration and efficiency of the Kansas court system. Chief Justice Lawton Nuss said it will be the first judicial study in 35 years. That study led to unification of state courts in 1977. For the first time in Kansas history, court-by-court caseloads will be studied by experts from the National Center for State Courts to make recommendations regarding staffing statewide, Nuss said. During the last state fiscal year, the state court system handled more than a half-million cases.
