WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts has a muted reaction to reports that the World Trade Organization will rule that the U.S. illegally subsidizes commercial aircraft-maker Boeing. U.S. Senator Sam Brownback had a more pointed response. Roberts counseled patience until experts can look at the ruling when it’s made public. Earlier, the WTO ruled that the European Union illegally subsidized rival aircraft-maker Airbus. He said until the ruling is made public, it’s difficult to compare the two. Brownback said that the EU has pursued a targeted government effort to steal market share in the commercial aircraft industry through massive government subsidies to Airbus. The WTO case is a try by EU to distract everyone from the subsidies to Airbus, he said.
