OTTAWA — A couple of thieves were found red-handed but they turned out to be fleet of foot. The Franklin County Sheriff’s office is investigating thefts from two trucks over the weekend. A 16-year-old from Rantoul said he spotted someone in his truck in the 400 block of South Elm in Rantoul late Friday night. Two knives and a pair of pliers were taken and the thief also tried to remove an amplifier. Deputies said the items were found near the truck. However, the suspect wasn’t. A 51-year-year old Pomona woman said she spotted a burglar in her pickup in the 100 block of West William early Sunday morning. The thief stole a camera, a stethoscope and a carton of cigarettes. The loss was estimated at $580.
