TOPEKA — The state unemployment rate fell slightly in August to 6.7. However, the jobless rate in much of eastern Kansas got worse in August. One of the exceptions was Franklin County which saw a slight decline in unemployment – from 8.4 percent in July to 8.2 in August. Anderson, Douglas and Coffey counties also saw slight declines in the jobless rate – from 7.3 to 7.2; 6.3 to 6.2 and 6.4 to 6.3. Howerver, unemployment was up in Miami, Linn and Osage counties – from 6.8 to 7.0, 8.1 to 8.6, and 7.3 to 7.7. Gov. Mark Parkinson heralded the report, saying Kansas businesses are seeing job growth for the second straight month, and the state unemployment rate remains one of the lowest in the country.
