GARNETT — This weekend’s annual Anderson County Corn Festival gets an early start with the Anderson County High School homecoming parade tonight downtown. The homecoming was scheduled to be the same weekend as the Corn Festival as a way to bring more people to town. The Bulldogs host Central Heights Friday night at for homecoming. Country music star Joe Nichols, who has been at the top of the country music charts with the songs “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” and “Gimme That Girl,” will perform at Saturday night’s Cornstock concert and is one of the highlights of the Corn Festival. He’ll be preceded by Ottawan Travis Marvin and Hammer Down. Among the new things this year’s Corn Festival, the “Can-U-Cruise” day cruise, hosted by the Lake Garnett Cruisers from 11-3 Saturday afternoon. The Lake Garnett Cruisers’ Susan Wettstein said the admission for exhibitors is $10 in cash or in non-perishable food items to help fill the local food pantry. Other events include “Safety City,” with displays and activities by a variety of emergency, rescue and law officers; a lawn-tractor demolition derby, and the Cornstock regatta.
