TOPEKA–Kansas speciality crop production will get a boost from five projects the state will fund using federal grant dollars from the United States Department of Agriculture. According to Secretary of Agriculture Josh Svaty said today that Kansas will receive over $280,000 to enhance the competitiveness of speciality crops which are defined as horticulture, including turf grass sod and turf grass sod seed, fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, nursery crops and floriculture. The grant recipients are Highland Community College, Glacial Hills Resource Conservation and Development Council, the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environment Education, and the Kansas Rural Center.
