OTTAWA — Franklin County farmers are frantically trying to get the corn crop harvested. The corn harvest is about 70 to 75 percent but the overall harvest isn’t shaping up to be a memorable one, said Darren Hibdon, Frontier District Extension agriculture and natural resources agent. Harvest results are mixed, he said. “The corn harvest has been a little bit disappointing,” he said. On the average, yields are running about 40 to 45 bushels per acre less than what would qualify as a good harvest, he said. Corn planting was generally late this spring because of wet conditions and since then, the corn has been affected by odd weather and insects, he said. The soybean harvest will soon start, he said.
