TOPEKA — Kansas transportation secretary Deb Miller has announced 35 new projects planned for the new T-Works transportation program over the next five years. Among area projects: Next year, KDOT plans to pave seven miles of the new U.S. 59 expressway in Douglas County, part of a plan to connect Lawrence and I-35 near Ottawa with a four-lane expressway. The Franklin County part of the expressway was completed and opened earlier this year. The bridge on U.S. 56 over 110 Mile Creek a half-mile west of the U.S. 75 and U.S. 56 junction in Osage County next year. KDOT plans several projects in the area in 2013 — In Franklin County, two and a half miles of U.S. 169 will be repaved between the Anderson and Miami county lines. In miami county, six more miles of U.S. 169 will be repaved and rebuilt north of the Franklin county line. In Douglas County, KDOT will replace two bridges on U.S. 56 east of U.S. 59 in the Tauy Creek watershed.
