OTTAWA — Assistant county attorney James Ward told a jury this morning that Roger Shaw, 51, Wellsville, was so drunk he didn’t see two motorcyclists when he turned in front of them at Shawnee Road and Texas Road last year. One of the motorcyclists, Aaron Kichler, 21, Ottawa, slammed into Shaw’s pickup and was killed. In his opening argument this morning in Franklin County District Court, Ward said Shaw was criminally responsible for Kichler’s death. Shaw has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in Kichler’s death on July 19, 2009. In her opening argument, Shaw’s attorney Sue DeVoe said that Kichler and his brother Adam Kichler, the other motorcyclist, were speeding.
