OTTAWA — Adam Kichler confessed in Franklin County District Court Tuesday that he slugged the 51-year-old Wellsville man who killed his brother in a traffic accident near Wellsville last year. In sometimes tearful testimony, 28-year-old Adam Kichler said he and his brother, 21-year-old Aaron Kichler, were driving their Kawasaki motorcycles along Shawnee Road to Kansas City when Roger Shaw suddenly tried to turn his pickup onto Texas road and in front of them. Aaron Kichler slammed into the side of Shaw’s pickup and under the truck and was killed instantly. Shaw has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in Kichler’s death July 19, 2009. Prosecutors said Shaw was drunk when the accident occurred. Shaw’s attorneys said the Kichlers were speeding on their motorcycles when the accident occurred. The elder kichler said after he tried to help his brother and realized he was probably dead and that Shaw smelled of alcohol, he punched Shaw in the face as hard as he could three times. Kichler also punched Shaw’s passenger twice. Witness Shantae Kemp of LeLoup testified that she called 911 and tried to defuse the situation among the men. Testimony is scheduled to continue in Franklin County District Court today.
