WASHINGTON — Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka get their day in court — again. And this time, it’s a big one. The U.S. Supreme court takes up a case today involving the right of his church to conduct his controversial anti-gay protests at military funerals. A lawsuit by the family of a dead Marine against Phelps and his church will goes before high court today. The Marine’s father, Al Snyder told ABC Radio the church’s belligerent anti-gay protest at his son’s funeral was a nightmare that violated the the family’s privacy and caused emotional damage. An appeals court ruled that the protests were protected by the First Amendment. Experts say it’s unlikely that the appeals court will be over-ruled, even by the conservative high court.
