GARNETT–The corn harvest in Anderson County is 97% complete, and it’s a mixed bag of news. Officials say the corn yield is running about 105 bushels per acre…whether individual farmers got a good crop or a bad one all depends on the timing. A district manager for Beachner Grain says early this summer the corn crop looked good…then came the 2 or 3 weeks of hot weather. Corn that was planted and pollinated early fared well….corn that pollinated during the hot spell saw lower yields. Corn prices are running between $4.25 and $4.60….which is significantly higher than 5 years ago. The soybean harvest is just getting started, and no firm results are yet available.
