GARNETT–The Kansas Corn Commission…based in Garnett…is reporting rapid progress in the corn harvest, and so far, it may be the second largest in history. Dry weather this Fall has helped speed the harvest, compared with wet weather last year that delayed getting in the crop until the end of the year. Commission officials say while the yield is not as good as last year, the acreage planted to corn in Kansas is the largest since 1936. While the final production numbers won’t come out until January, the average corn yield so far is about 130 bushels per acre.
