OTTAWA — A new Medicare rule change by federal regulators will be a help to Ransom Memorial Hospital’s revenues, which have hit by the flagging economy. Medicare has temporarily changes its floor for hospitals that qualify for low-volume payments, said
hospital CEO Larry Felix. Previously, hospitals qualified for the low-volume medical payments if they had 250 Medicare admissions or less per year but that changed to 1,600 admissions per year, he said. RMH normally has 750 Medicare admissions per year, he said. The hospital will get a temporary payment boost for the next two years, he said. At time when economy is poor and financial, the boost provides welcome help for the hospital, which has seen a decline in revenues and admissions because of the economy, he said.
